What is Iboga?

Iboga is a sacred plant medicine derived from the root bark of the Tabernanthe iboga shrub, native to Central West Africa. It has been used for generations within the Bwiti tradition as a tool for deep healing, spiritual insight, and personal transformation.

What can I expect during an Iboga ceremony?

Each experience is unique and deeply personal. Some individuals may have vivid, dream-like visions or reflective “life review” experiences, while others enter a quieter, more introspective state. The medicine works gently but deeply, supporting physical detoxification and bringing subconscious material into awareness for healing and integration.

Is Iboga safe?

When administered in a properly screened, medically supported, and professionally facilitated environment, Iboga can be used safely. However, it is a powerful medicine and is not suitable for everyone. For this reason, we conduct thorough medical screenings prior to participation, including health history, ECG (heart assessment), and medication review.

How does Iboga support healing?

Iboga works across multiple levels:
Physical: Supports detoxification and nervous system regulation.
Mental: Helps bring awareness to patterns, beliefs, and behaviours.
Emotional & Spiritual: Facilitates deep insight, release, and reconnection.

Many individuals experience a meaningful shift in clarity, purpose, and overall wellbeing.

Will I have visions?

Some participants experience vivid inner imagery or life-review processes, while others receive more subtle insights or emotional clarity. There is no single way the experience will unfold. Iboga meets each person where they are, and the process is guided by what is most needed.

How is Iboga different from Ayahuasca?

While both are powerful plant medicines, their approaches differ. Iboga is often more introspective, grounding, and direct in its insights, encouraging deep self-reflection. Ayahuasca is typically described as more emotional and heart-centered. Each medicine has its own unique qualities and applications.

How should I prepare for the retreat?

Preparation is an important part of the process and may include:
• Following a clean, balanced diet
• Avoiding alcohol, recreational substances, and certain medications
• Setting clear personal intentions

You will receive detailed preparation guidelines upon registration to support you fully.

What are the physical effects?

Some physical responses are a natural part of the process and may include:
• Nausea or vomiting (often associated with detoxification)
• Dizziness or a sense of heaviness in the body
• Periods of stillness or deep inward focus
These experiences are monitored and supported throughout.

Can Iboga help with addiction?

Iboga has been widely recognized for its potential in interrupting addiction cycles, particularly with substances such as opiates, alcohol, and tobacco. It works by supporting physical detoxification while also bringing awareness to the underlying emotional and psychological drivers of dependency.

How many ceremonies are included?

This varies depending on individual needs, medical evaluation, and facilitator guidance. Most retreats include between one and three ceremonies.

Will I be supported during the ceremony?

Yes. You will be continuously supported by experienced facilitators and medical staff throughout the entire process. Your safety, comfort, and emotional wellbeing are carefully held at all times.

Is Iboga dangerous?

Iboga is a potent medicine and must be approached with care and respect. Risks can arise if it is used without proper screening or in unsafe environments. Our protocols are designed to minimise risk and ensure a safe, contained experience.

What should I avoid before the retreat?

Participants are required to avoid:
• Alcohol and recreational substances (typically 2–4 weeks prior).
• Certain medications, including antidepressants and stimulants (under medical guidance).

A full preparation guide will be provided in advance.

How long does the Iboga experience last?

The primary experience typically lasts between 12 and 24 hours, followed by a period of rest and integration. The effects may continue to unfold in the days and weeks that follow.

Is there support after the ceremony?

Yes. Integration is a vital part of the healing process. We offer:
• One-on-one integration support.
• Group sharing and reflection sessions.
• Practical tools to help you integrate insights into daily life.

Will someone meet me at the airport?

Yes. If you are travelling from outside South Africa, a member of our team will welcome you upon arrival. Transportation to and from the retreat location, as well as your return to the airport, is fully arranged to ensure a smooth and supported experience from start to finish.
